Hypnotherapy

Ann undertook her advanced hypnotherapy training at the Milton H. Erickson Foundation in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Erickson is considered by many to have been the greatest ever practitioner of hypnotherapy.  His elegant, conversational, seemingly ambiguous style, often utilising anecdote and metaphor with powerful effect, has been much imitated. Indeed, it has become the foundation upon which many schools of hypnotherapy base their curricula.

What does it do and how does it work?
Imagine that within you there is a place that is the storehouse of everything you've ever seen, done, felt or heard since the day you were born. With so much more added along the way, often without us consciously noticing. So much information…an enormous heap of 'stuff' within your unconscious mind! As you go on in your life, many 'scripts' are written and reside in this place, in no particular order or format. Some serve us extremely well, others do not.

Hypnotherapy sessions enable communication with and editing of these life 'scripts', changing habits and ways of reacting that are not working for you. Simply put, this is done by your therapist assisting you to replace unhelpful beliefs and behaviours, by reaching parts of you that other modes of therapy may be denied access to. The quietening of your conscious mind allows many thoughts, images and suggestions to filter in and be processed in new ways that benefit your overall wellbeing.

The most popular descriptions of the hypnotic state are expressions such as "a focused state of awareness", or "a heightened state of consciousness". However you choose to describe it, know that in the hands of a trained professional, it is a safe and empowering tool that allows new perspectives and discoveries to be noticed. How you live is how you use your mind.
